The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to continue funding for Santa Clarita Transit bus service in the unincorporated areas of Santa Clarita.
The county contracts with the city of Santa Clarita for transit service in the non-city parts of the SCV such as Stevenson Ranch, Castaic and Val Verde.
The entire Santa Clarita Transit budget for fiscal year 2015-16 is $29.8 million, according to a county report. The county’s share is about $5.4 million, but just $2.4 million is up for approval Tuesday. The other $3 million comes through various state and federal grant funding sources pursued by the city of Santa Clarita.
Santa Clarita Transit has been around since 1992 and currently includes 7-day-per-week local bus services, a 5-day-per-week commuter bus service and specialized 7-day-per-week service for elderly and disabled persons.
