NORTHRIDGE, CA – The CSUN men’s golf team posted its best round of the tournament Sunday as the Matadors moved up from 20th to 16th at the conclusion of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
After posting team rounds of 310 and 301 Friday and Saturday, CSUN closed with a 293 on Sunday to move up four spots.
“We improved every round and really stepped up today,” said head coach Jim Bracken. “I think today is a little more indicitive of what we’re capable of. We’ll build on this finish as we head to Long Beach next week.”
Senior Tim Snyder played virtually error-free on Sunday as he posted four birdies, 13 pars and a single bogey on his way to a three-under 69. Snyder was in the top-30 after the first round before struggling to a second round 77. Following his final round 69, Snyder vaulted from 50th to 19th at four-over 220, his third top 20 finish this season.
“Tim bogeyed his first hole and played four under from there so he was solid,” added Bracken. “You always want one of your top guys to shoot under par in every round and Tim did that today.”
Sam Engel also had a solid final round as he fired a two-under 70 Sunday to move up from 64th into a tie 35th at seven-over 223. Felix Mory finished with a three-over 75 to tie for 45th at nine-over 225. Tavit Garabedian posted a final round 79 to finish tied for 97th at +20, 236. Luis Calderon rounded out the CSUN lineup as he finished 112th at 28-over 244 following a final round 80. Conrad White, competing as an individual, finished 116th at 35-over 251 after a final round 82.
CSUN next plays at Long Beach State’s Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club Feb. 29-Mar. 1.
