Such a load of crap. It was never closed last year when we had the threat of El Niño and there was no work done over the summer to prepare for this winter. LA County Public Works needs to pull their heads out of their asses.
The official signs are the county equivalent of hiney armor; if there is rain, they can’t stop the flooding because they can’t remove the silt from the creek bed because the DFG, Forest Service and various other agencies won’t let them. So if they “warn” you and you drive around the signs and get car damage, injuries, or dead as a result – it’s on you.
At least this time they announced it in advance. The last time SoCal was threatened by rain they closed Bouquet three days before the rain was supposed to get here. And there were no public announcements here or anywhere else that I could easily find. That meant when I5 was closed southbound (gosh, a truck accident? Who knew?), driving Hwy 138 east to Three Pines and then to Pine Canyon Rd, to Spunky Canyon and then finding that Bouquet was closed to through traffic.
It was a long drive back north and east to teh 14 and south to home after that.
