The city of Santa Clarita is accepting submissions from local photographers for its Winter 2017 Photo Contest through December 31.
Examples include:
* Active Santa Clarita: Snapshots of hiking, biking and exploring the outdoors in Santa Clarita;
* People Portraits: Residents participating in city-sponsored events and classes.
* Community Life: Community members volunteering, enjoying nightlife, experiencing City events, celebrations, arts and culture;
* My View: Images illustrating your favorite Santa Clarita view.
The top three photos chosen by a panel of judges will win cash prizes.
The First Place photo will win $300, Second Place $150 and Third Place $50.

How often does this contest take place?
The contest is run quarterly, beginning approximately January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 each year. Contests are run back-to-back, so as soon as one closes, the next quarter’s contest opens.
Do I need to have a Facebook account to enter?
No. The contest is run through Facebook, but you do not need to have an account or log into Facebook to enter. All you need is a valid email address.
Can minors enter the contest?
You must be at least 18 years old to enter. Minors are welcome to have an adult enter a photo on their behalf, but the name on the entry form and the prize recipient must be an adult.
When are the winners chosen?
Winners are selected approximately two weeks after the contest closes. The next quarterly contest opens while winners from the previous contest are still being selected.
Who votes for the winners?
Winners are selected by a panel of judges comprised of city staff, all of whom have experience in photography, design and/or marketing.
How long does it take to receive my prize?
Approximately six weeks. Winners will be contacted via email within two weeks after the contest closes. Once W-9s are received from the winners, checks will be mailed to the winners’ addresses within another two-four weeks.
Do I need to report these winnings on my taxes?
Only if you receive more than $600 from the city in a single calendar year. In this case, you will receive a 1099 from the city at the end of the year, and you are required to report that amount.
