Dia De Los Muertos SCV is coming back to Santa Clarita next month and will offer residents the opportunity to partake in traditions dating back hundreds of years.
The event is hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, the De Mis Sueños Cultural Arts Program and Eternal Valley Mortuary Park .
Dia De Los Muertos SCV will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
This free celebratory event will feature children’s activities, community altars, a sugar skull contest, dozens of vendors, Aztec performers and live entertainment throughout the evening.
DDLM is a colorful and celebratory event that is unique to other cultures. Flowers, gifts, fruits, candles and music are offered to honor the memory of lost loved ones onNov. 1 and 2 each year. Family members and friends tend to the grave sites of their loved ones and adorn the space with food, trinkets and music they once enjoyed in their lifetime.
“As a child, I celebrated Halloween and other American holidays,” said DDLM SCV committee president, Amber Martinez. “It wasn’t until I lost my father 10 years ago that I truly understood the significance and importance of Dia De Los Muertos in my life and our Latino culture.”
“I hope that attendees gain a multicultural experience through DDLM SCV and at the same time embrace the life of their lost loved ones and share stories with us,” Martinez said.
Dia De Los Muertos SCV will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park located at 23287 N. Sierra Highway in Newhall. For more information, contact the Chamber at 661-702-6977 or visit the website at www.scvchamber.com/dia-de-los-muertos
