Rea Nagel, retired Burbank art teacher, will demonstrate mixed media watercolor painting at a meeting of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association on Feb.18 at 6:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble on Valencia Blvd.
“As a native of very flat Illinois, my fascination with mountains and the ocean grows daily since I moved to California many years ago. Since Southern California has a 12-month growing season, the variety of flowers and plants is endless,” said Nagel.
Most of Nagel’s paintings are watercolor, but she also mixes the use of acrylics, collage, and pastels.
“I enjoy blending colors, since nothing is a solid tube color. I mix my colors on the paper to get the wanted results. Most of my paintings have several versions of the same scene done until I decide on the composition. To me, composition and values are what makes a painting worth looking at,” Nagel said.
After retiring from many years of teaching in Burbank, she missed the contact with students and began teaching part time at adult schools in community centers and Beverly Hills Adult School.
The event is free and open to the public. Come early, standing room only by 6:30. For more information visit www.SantaClaritaArtists.org.
