1926 - Newhall Community Hospital, est. 1922, opens in larger, more modern hospital building at 6th & Spruce streets [story]
Newhall Community Hospital

Washington — Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released a statement Thursday after the House passed its budget that would end the state and local tax deduction, hurting millions of families throughout California and the nation.

In Los Angeles County, 1,496,270 families claimed the state and local tax deduction in 2015, and a county family’s average deduction was $18,649, as compiled by the National Association of Counties.

Here is Feinstein’s statement:

“Over the last week, the House and Senate passed a budget resolution that not only would balloon the deficit by $1.5 trillion in order to cut taxes for the rich, but it would do so in part by ending a vital tax deduction for millions of families that allows them to deduct state and local taxes.

“This terrible proposal would be disastrous for American families. In California, 6 million families claim the state and local tax deduction. California families on average deduct $18,438. And nationwide almost one-third of all families claim this deduction. Ending it would be devastating.

“This action is bad enough on its face, but to raise taxes on families in order to drastically cut taxes for the richest Americans is unconscionable.

“Now that the Senate and House have each passed a budget resolution, the next step is debating an actual tax reform bill. I will do all I can to defeat it. I also encourage all of my colleagues to defeat any tax reform bill that will deal a huge blow to the finances of millions of American families.”

In Los Angeles County, the number of families claiming the deduction in 2015 was 1,496,270, and a county family’s average deductions were $18,649, as compiled by the National Association of Counties.

  1. Feinstein and her tax fantasies, belong in a nursing home.

  2. Will Fleet says:

Because she doesn’t want to raise our taxes? Because she is against double taxation?

    • Federal taxes came first, California is responsible for double taxation. The greedy pukes in Sacramento won’t be happy until this state is under socialist rule.

    • Federal taxes came first, California is responsible for double taxation. The greedy pukes in Sacramento won’t be happy until this state is under socialist rule.

    • Will Fleet says:

No. Feds want to tax us on income that we’ve already paid in other taxes. Double taxing. Net income tax increase for middle to lower middle class.

      • lu madar says:

You are correct, sir: This is illegal double taxation and can probably be argued against as such, if our AG Becerra stops fighting on behalf of illegal immigrants and AGAINST lawful actions by ICE/DHS when it comes to them, to fight on behalf of tax-paying citizens! Too bad he’s blown so much cred on the wrong fights meanwhile…ditto Moonbeam Brown and the rest.

WITH THE AVG. COUNTY FAMILY DEDUCTING ALMOST $19,000/ YEAR IN TAXES OUR EXTRA FED TAXES WOULD BE HUGE — AND MEANWHILE THE SUPER-RICH, who are few and far between in SCV, get the tax breaks!
        — Keep in mind that if this is the AVG. deduction in L A Cty, despite all the poor and illegals, some families would pay much much more.

Feinstein is fighting for US, stupid PPL condemning her are throwing venom at the wrong pol here
        — that said, the taxation-crazy lib Dem’s who run CA must stop increasing our state and local taxes assuming the Feds will bail us out!
They don’t even try to balance the budget, they just throw on another sales tax — we’re at around 10% now — gas tax, “parcel”/ prop tax… THIEVES.

  3. Mandy Day says:

The taxes as a whole will still drop. The rest of the nation shouldn’t be subsidizing liberal fiefdoms. Maybe people will realize how misguided liberal policies are when they’re forced to actually pay for them with out the free lunch. This state needs to wake up before we’re facing bankruptcy like Illinois

  4. dennis says:

Im sick of these criminals dictating whats good for me and my family. These CORRUPT career criminals in public office should be gone after four damm years with no lobby for ten year this would stop these people from rigging elections and give other honest people a chance to serve our people not steal every damm dollar i make. With policys that we dont want.So shut up about your justification and fix this problem its simple fiur year term limits!!

  5. Well DUH! she lives in the high tax neighborhood. Doubt this will happen to those who’s houses cost less then a million in calif. The rich have ways to escape paying most taxes that the middle class pay and support the rich in congress who only work 2-3 days a week. Poor things?

  6. The libs can just keep raising our taxes in CA and the rest of the country has to subsidize us…the federal government should stop it…the libs here has to held accountable and the people here needs to know what they are really doing….

  7. Primary residence yes- fleet of “second” homes, big boats NO

  8. KJ Slo says:

Vote that crooked b-ch out of office already!

  9. Oh, right, as if she was ever not going to oppose a Republican tax cut plan.

  10. Money grubbing thieves.

  11. Jon Real says:

Of course she does! In the beginning it will hurt us (middle class) but maybe people will wake up and see how the state is taking way to much from us! She and her friends have been hurting us in taxes! Change is in the air!

  12. She’s afraid that citizens will howl at not getting the tax break most of the rest of the country is getting because our state taxes are too freakin’ high. All I can hope for is that voters will see the liberal sham of a free lunch for what it is.

  13. Will Fleet says:

Not sure you folks understand what she’s saying here. She’s trying to avoid *raising* taxes by not ripping off our deductions for other taxes paid.

    • lu madar says:

Right again, see my comment above: to those who are foolishly excited about this, saying things like the following, they need to realize they are delusional:

–“In the beginning it will hurt us (middle class) but maybe people will wake up and see how the state, she and her friends, are taking way too much from us! Hurting us in taxes! Change is in the air!”
      — Do they really think the lib’s will change for the better? No, they will keep raising taxes and the middle class will hurt more — but Feinstein and her more moderate colleagues have to explain things to their extreme left flanks.
      — If Kevin DeLeon succeeds in replacing her because ignoramuses don’t understand the situation, AND the Republican Feds carry this through, all that will happen is more Californians will move out of state to places like NC with little or no state taxes.

  14. Feinstein must go. Viva De Leon

  15. Linda Tarnoff says:

If you are a homeowner who itemizes deductions such as mortgage interest and state and local taxes, i.e. Property taxes, you could lose the deductions for state and local taxes at tax time which would hit local wallets really hard!. Tax reform comes with a cost to someone. The property tax bills just came out. Lost would be that deduction. I applaud Feinstein and the Republican reps who are trying to keep this deduction in!
