Los Angeles County Fire Department units doused a small grass fire at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and 9th Street in midtown Newhall Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
“We received the call at 2:12 p.m., and it was a small grass fire, about an eighth of an acre,” said Vanessa Lozano, LACoFD spokesperson, at 2:30 p.m.
Officials quickly dubbed it the Newhall Fire.
“Multiple units are on scene and it should be out by now, or shortly,” she said.
Initial reports were that structures may have been in danger, as the fire burned up a small hill toward the backyards of a few homes, but Lozano said no structures were damaged.
SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies closed Arcadia Street due to the fire and firefighter traffic.
Lozano said deputies had initially called for an evacuation of the immediate area “out of an abundance of caution.”
As of 2:45 p.m., the station reported homes were no longer threatened and evacuations were no longer being conducted.
The fire’s cause is unknown.
