[KHTS] – It was the “Battle of the Big Boys” as Saugus High School hosted its annual high school football lineman’s competition Saturday.
Jason Bornn, Head Coach of Saugus Football, said the competition was a way to test a portion of the team that doesn’t have as many opportunities to compete outside of football season.
“We’re doing our 4th or 5th annual lineman’s competition,” Bornn said. “We bring teams out from all the over the place that want to compete in various events. There’s not a ton of stuff for lineman and this is one event that caters to them and to the talents that they bring.”
A number of schools sent teams to compete in Saturday’s lineman’s competition, including Saugus, Canyon, West Ranch, Hart, Westlake, Pioneer Valley and Vasquez.
Bornn said the players were tested in skills that required strength as well as agility such as weightlifting, sled driving, monster-truck-tire flipping and dumbbell relays.
The monster-truck-tire flipping event involved four teams competing at the same time in a relay format. Other events were judged individually with points scored based on performance.
The competition took place on the Saugus High School football field and inside Saugus’ gym.
The event was free and open to the public, with refreshments offered for sale in the parking lot next to the football field.
The team that finished with the most points at the lineman’s competition was to be awarded with a trophy and t-shirts, Bornn said.

My son competed in this competition. All the teams gave their best. It was an impressive and a fun event. They all did a great job.
My son was there as well…. Go Saugus!!!
Wonder why Valencia High isn’t at this competition? Anyone know?
Valencia never participates in any of the passing tournaments, linemen’s challenges etc., might be a question their program can answer.
Great to hear lineman getting recognized for their incredible hard work!
Awesome!
