Pauline Winbush, Palmdale School District

Former assistant superintendent Pauline Ruth Winbush, of the Palmdale Unified School District, has been sentenced to 270 days in county jail after admitting to animal abuse charges related to dogfighting, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Deputy District Attorney Lyle Riggs said Winbush, 53, and her live-in boyfriend Kevin Williams, 52, both pleaded no contest on April 5 to one felony count each of possession with intent for dogfighting and animal neglect.

Williams also was sentenced yesterday to one year in county jail. Both defendants also will be on formal probation for five years and face more than three years in prison if they violate the terms of their sentence.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Frank Tavelman ordered Winbush and Williams to complete 24 animal cruelty classes, pay any restitution owed, and are barred from owning, possessing or living with any animals for 10 years.

A third co-defendant in case MA064988, Rodney Scott, 47, also entered a no contest plea to one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty on April 5 and was prohibited from owning, possessing or residing with any animal for one year.

Officers with the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control searched Winbush and Williams’ Antelope Acres property after their horse was found roaming the streets on Oct. 29, 2014. Inside they discovered dogs kept inside crates filled with feces and urine which were stored inside the defendants’ house, the prosecutor said. Some of the dogs also showed signs of being used for dogfighting. A total of 19 dogs were euthanized as a result.

Other animals discovered at the site included a tortoise, snakes and a box full of mice that appeared to be eating each other out of hunger, the prosecutor added. During the preliminary hearing it was revealed that evidence discovered at the property linked co-defendant Scott to the couple in an operation to breed pit bulls for fighting.

The case was investigated by the Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

County sounds like an ideal place for her to spend the summer, fall, and winter. The Sheriff’s ought to give a dozen of the K9 units some time to “play” on the way to lockup.

  5. She’ll probably be on paid leave.

  6. Alan Meyer says:

She works in palmdale, are you surprised?

    Full sentence

  8. Dan says:

What disgusting people! That one-year jail sentence will probably be reduced to less than a month. It is difficult to imagine how the Palmdale School District could have given her an important responsibility.

  9. What a scumbag !!! Karma please come get this piece of %*#^ !!!

  10. I’m sure The Philadelphia Eagles will give her a second chance after she serves her time.

  11. Andy says:

Really? That’s it? 270 days? After more than 20 animals were killed. You gotta be pretty messed up in the head to hurt dogs. She should never be allowed to own animals again and she should get at least 5 years in jail. I mean jeffery dahmer was abusing animals before he started messing with people….

  12. The Kentucky Derby is today…

  15. Maria Garcia says:

They have to fire her… 270 days is nothing

  16. Anita Miller says:

What a filthy, disgusting waste of human flesh. She and her sickening boyfriend are bottom of the barrel, low class filth. God saw what you did..you may have gotten off lightly with the justice system here, but make no mistake, you will stand accountable before God. (hoping a little karma visits you in jail as well)

  17. Jeanne Marten says:

Assistant superintendent Pauline Ruth Winbush, of the Palmdale Unified School District. So she was educated and not stupid.
    That makes it worse!

Also she worked to oversee education of children! Oh my gosh.
