Judy Riley, president of the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation, died last night after a brief, two month illness. A statement issued by the foundation’s executive board stated that she was “surrounded by her loving family who provided comfort and love in her last moments.”
The family is in the preliminary stages of planning services and information regarding memorial donations will be provided later.
“Judy was committed to making a difference in the world and in the lives of so many young scholars. We know we speak for everyone who knew Judy to say that we will miss her talents, compassion, humor, energy, curiosity, intelligence and the drive to be the best in all her many endeavors. Her goal was to grow the Scholarship Foundation, and it is now our mission to carry out her wishes,” the statement continued.
Janice Murray, host of the KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight Show, remembered enjoying interviewing Riley as a guest on her show: “I just adored her. She was so passionate about the kids, so passionate about what she did. And it was infectious. She really was a special lady.”
“Judy’s volunteerism wasn’t restricted to education,” said Carol Rock, President of the SCV Food Pantry Board, “Her husband Mike serves on the board and Judy would always help with events and special projects. She always put the needs of the community first.”
