1822 - Surveyor Edward F. Beale born in Washington, D.C.; cut through Newhall Pass 40 years later, assembled 270,000-acre Tejon Ranch [story]

The Coroner’s Office is not investigating the death of a girl found unresponsive at Six Flags Magic Mountain, officials said Tuesday.

“She had a pre-existing condition,” said Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, noting her doctor will be signing off on the cause of death. “The ride had nothing to do with the death.”

Park officials reported Jasmine Martinez, 10, of Ventura County, was found breathing, but unconscious near the rest area for the ride Revolution at the Valencia amusement park.

She was airlifted to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

“We were deeply saddened to learn that Jasmine Martinez, who was transported to the hospital after riding Revolution on June 12, has died,” according to a statement from Six Flags officials. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jasmine’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Fire officials received the call at 4:09 p.m., arrived at the park at 4:17 p.m., and had the patient en route to the local hospital at 4:45 p.m., according to Inspector Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The girl’s death was reported to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office at 4:58 p.m., according to Lt. Fred Corral of the Coroner’s Office.

More than 45 million guests have safely ridden Revolution since it opened in 1976, according to park officials.

State investigators initially closed the ride for an inspection after the girl was taken to the hospital, and an initial inspection cleared the ride.

Investigators reportedly then re-opened the investigation, due to state procedure, after the death was reported. The ride was cleared a second time Monday, according to park officials.

[A Give Forward page] was set up by friends of the family to support the family:

“The Somis community would like for the family to be able to grieve without the extra burden of financial stress. By donating to this fund, you will be helping towards medical, funeral, and counseling costs for the family. I am a teacher at Somis Union School, and I represent the teachers and staff of the school, as well as the community when I ask for your help in this cause. I ask for all who read this to consider making a donation and to please forward the link to your contacts to help spread the word. The family thanks you for your sympathy and thanks all for respecting their privacy.”

  11. Such a tragedy. I can’t imagine the pain her parents must be feeling. I just hope this silences the critics who were so quick to blame the park, the ride, her parents, etc. People are way too quick today in making assumptions and pointing fingers.

  33. RIP little one…so sorry for her family.

  34. Don’t you think the parents are grieving enough?! Do you know her condition or the circumstances around her death? Regardless you shouldn’t cast blame or make assumptions.

  35. The article specifically states that her death had nothing to do with the ride.
Whether her parents let her go on the ride or not is completely irrelevant.

  36. Sorry to hear about this tragic story. RIP little girl.

  37. Prayers for her and her family!

  38. People can have an unknown previous medical condition (such as AVM). Please dont assume that parents were irresponsible. I can only imagine their heartbreak and devastation would be compounded by reading such an accusation.

  39. Very tragic. Many of us are walking around with unknown medical conditions that could kill us without warning, such as aneurysms or heart abnormalities. Cherish every day of life, it is a gift. May this girl RIP and her memory be a blessing to her family.

  40. Yes prayers to the family, but if you know your kids have a medical condition don’t put them on those rides, they have signs everywhere!!!! I used to be a lead supervisor on the revolution…smh

  60. Descanse en los brazos del señor JESUS.

  61. So sad…rest in peace pretty girl.

  62. I still don’t think children should be allowed on these rides. Parents are making these decisions. Children just want to have fun without thoughts of the dangers. If she had a preexisting condition, why the hell did the parents allow her to ride?

    • Let her rest is peace without you judging her parents. People like you will be humbled by such criticism and hurtful blame. Your heartless rant will slap you in the face

    • Millions of children have ridden this ride since it opened in the seventies, including me and my own kids. Not one death until now and it was due to pre-existing condition.

    • Annie, do you have any kids? Obviously, you don’t. Don’t judge people when you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve raised five kids, have eleven grand kids, have been a teacher, and run day cares. God gives children parents who have experience and maturity to raise them. You remind me of the person who has no children and writes a book on raising kids. When you grow up and have matured and have some experience with children, THEN AND ONLY THEN can you make intelligent remarks. Until then, stop making stupid comments.

    • You remind me of everyone who is ignorant in this world. Speaking without using your brain

    • Kristy Lynn says:

There are adults all around the world that do not know about a pre-existing condition they have such as a brain aneurysm and die doing normally harmless activities. A friend of mine, in her early 50s, had a brain aneurysm that she was not aware of that burst and ended up killing her. Kid or adult…the roller coaster was not the cause and mind you I’ve been riding them for over 20 years without any injury along with millions of other people. And the parents were being good parents by doing something with their kid, an outside activity which seems to be less and less of these days. Very rude and stupid to say that after a family lost a child.

  63. Pore family and little girl, so tragic

  64. My condolence to Jasmine’s family and friends.I know what they are going thru.I lost a son at an early age.It hurts forever.Such a beautiful girl. She is with the Lord now R.I.P.
