Santa Clarita Valley High School Sports Report for Thursday, March 31, 2016:
Foothill League Track & Field
The Saugus boys and Golden Valley girls came out victorious in the second Foothill league meet of 2016.
Golden Valley’s Bianca Tinoco won both the 800 and 1600 meter events while Azaria Hill swept the 100 and 200 meter sprints to help power Golden Valley to a 77-59 victory over Saugus.
On the boys side Louis Eusebi took the 100 and 200 meter sprints while Ryan Tate 1600 and 3200 events as the Centurions took home a 87-49 win for the boys.
Foothill League Baseball
Hart’s seven run fifth inning was the difference as the Indians took home a 9-2 victory over Canyon. Nick Plaia scored a run early in the inning and added a three run home run to power the Indians to their third league win.
Saugus held off a late Golden Valley charge to escape with a 5-4 victory to keep pace with Valencia in the Foothill league standings. Andrew Holt threw a complete game for the Grizzlies in the loss.
Foothill League Tennis
Saugus toppled Hart 11-7 in a rescheduled match due to rain on Tuesday afternoon.
Valencia overwhelmed Golden Valley 17-1, sweeping the team doubles for the second straight league match.
West Ranch pounded Canyon 18-0 as the Wildcats continued their dominance of the Foothill League, improving to 3-0 and 8-1 on the year.
Foothill League Boys Golf
West Ranch’s Danny DiMaria shot a 1-under 71 as the Wildcats defeated Burbank 373-422.
Gunnar Murray added an even-par 72 in the Wildcats win.
