Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Katie Hill celebrated National Police Week by working across the aisle on a law enforcement legislative agenda, commemorative Special Order Hour on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, and bipartisan press conference addressing a new bill to support police.

Hill (D-Agua Dulce) set the stage for the week by attending the annual Antelope Valley Law Enforcement Honoree Day, where she greeted local law enforcement heroes. She carried our local spirit of service to Washington this week by organizing and leading the Police Week Special Orders Hour with Congressman John Rutherford (R-FL-04).

In her speech, Hill highlighted the importance of bipartisan support of our hard-working law enforcement officials.

“My dad is a police officer and our community is rooted in service — it’s a value I grew up with,” Hill said. “Protecting and supporting our law enforcement shouldn’t be partisan, and the speakers joining us today demonstrate that we can work across the aisle to support our law enforcement.”

Additionally, the Congresswoman took the opportunity to honor and remember the life of California Highway Patrol Officer and CA-25 constituent, Johnathan Tanner, who passed away this March after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He left behind his wife, Jessie, their two sons, and a baby girl expected to arrive later this month.

“Officer Jonathan Tanner was a true public servant from the Antelope Valley, and a role model of service for all of us. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his community, his church, and his family,” Hill said. “I am proud to have represented Officer Tanner, and I know his loved ones and community will carry on the legacy of his light in the world.”

Hill is also proud to advocate for numerous pieces of legislation to support law enforcement and peace officers. Earlier this week Congresswoman Hill co-hosted a press conference on H.R. 838, the Threat Assessment Prevention and Safety Act (TAPS), a bipartisan solution authored by Congressman Brian Babin (R-TX-36) to stop tragedies before they happen.
