On Sunday, Dec. 20, Men’s Central Jail and Twin Towers Correctional Facility hosted their Holiday Toy and Blanket presentation for the children visiting incarcerated loved ones during the holiday season.
With generous donations from the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse, Department of Children and Family Services, Office of Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, 999 for Kids and department members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department every visiting child received a toy.
Over 400 toys were given to visiting children. Also, each child received a blanket, which were hand-made by inmates from MCJ and TTCF through the Blanket Project, which provides inmates the opportunity to enhance their rehabilitative efforts by engaging in a community service project for the holidays.
The Los Angeles County Jail Visiting Center was decorated by Santa’s helpers with engaging arts and crafts. Children were able to build ornaments and color their own art creations with LASD staff, family and friends. The perfect holiday treats of cupcakes and cookies were provided by Food Services Bureau. It was a very festive event for all.
