Inside Sports, a 30-minute television show focusing on the players and coaches of Santa Clarita Valley high school sports, will debut on SCVTV Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hosted by SCVTV Sports Director Dave Caldwell, this week’s show features the Canyon High School boys basketball team, co-Foothill League champions this past season, along with head coach Chad Phillips, who is stepping down as the winningest coach in Cowboys basketball history.

Monday night during the show’s taping at Game Day Sports Grille and Bar, Phillips talked about what the past 12 years have meant.

“I got lucky. To be able to work in a situation I dreamed about being in and being a coach,” Phillips said. “Now after 12 years to know the success we’ve had and the unbelievable kids I was able to coach.”

Phillips goes out with a record of 200-133 and has the distinction of having taken his teams to the playoffs for each of those 12 years. Along the way he won three league championships and made it to the CID semi-finals in 2002.

“When you coach at Canyon you are coaching blue collar workers,” Phillips said. “Kids are going to get dirty, work hard and they are going to get the job done. So for 12 years we’ve had the best basketball players that can come through Canyon and we’ve had success.”
