[KHTS] – Santa Clarita movers and shakers are invited to the 10th annual KHTS Sacramento Road Trip in March to speak to state leaders about local issues.
Sponsored by the Castaic Lake Water Agency, Southern California Gas, California Credit Union, Union Bank and Assemblyman Scott Wilk’s office, 110 Santa Clarita leaders and students will take buses up to the capital March 16-17, 2015.
“The unique thing about this is no other community in the country that we know of does this and no other community in California does this,” said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM 1220. “You have all this cross-leadership up there not just talking about their own self-interest, instead we have a very wide group advocating something that’s very important to our community.”
Along with local leaders, four high school students – two from SCVi Charter School and two from the William S. Hart Union School District – will be able to attend the event where they can interact with local and state leaders.
“The high school students are the future of Santa Clarita, which is terrific because we have 106 community leaders going and the students really get to spend time with all of those community leaders for two days,” Goldman said. “More importantly they see what the issues are in Sacramento and get a better understanding of government and politics. We want to start nurturing the next generation of Santa Clarita leaders.”
This year, one student from Golden Valley High School and one student from Canyon High School will have the opportunity to attend the trip.
The Santa Clarita Valley leaders will discuss important issues facing the valley about education, water, worker’s compensation and health care. The exact issues that will be discussed will be decided this coming February.
The cost to attend the trip is $495 which includes transportation, food and hotel.
“The participants all paying their own way to go on this trip and taking two days out of their busy work schedules to do something on behalf of the valley,” Goldman said.
If you are interested in attending this event or have any questions, please contact Carl Goldman at carl@hometownstation.com or at 661-298-1220. Space is limited and fills up fast.
