[Sen. Knight] – On Monday, by a vote of 36-0 (Senate Resolution 21), fellow Senators elected Senator Steve Knight, R-Antelope Valley, to the Senate Rules Committee. The first 2014 hearing for the committee and the newly-elected Senator commenced Wednesday, and affected the approval of several administrative measures for the Senate, changes to committee membership, and the confirmation of seven gubernatorial appointees, among other important actions.
The powerful Senate Rules Committee is the primary administrator of the rules and business activities of the Senate, such as setting the session schedule and deadlines of the house, administering all Senate staff, and approving members to all committees. Rules also has the important task of confirming appointees for boards and commissions nominated by the Governor and the Legislature.
“This new role as a Rules Committee member is an honor, and I take this responsibility very seriously. I am privileged to have the confidence of my colleagues to serve on this prestigious panel, and am committed to thoughtfully contributing to all of their important functions,” said Senator Knight.
The Senate Rules membership is made up of Senate ProTem Darrell Steinberg (Chair), Senators Jean Fuller (Vice Chair), Hannah-Beth Jackson, Steve Knight and Ricardo Lara. The Committee typically meets every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., and as necessary on time-sensitive matters.
Knight represents about half of the Santa Clarita Valley in the California Senate.
