A Santa Clarita Valley based construction firm has been named for two major awards.
Executives at Lundgren Management were thrilled to learn recently that the company has been named to receive the award for Building/Renovation in the 11 to 50 million dollar range, presented by the Southern California Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America, for its work modernizing the humanities building at Santa Barbara City College.
The company has also been named the chapter’s 2015 Silver Member Firm of the Year.
The awards will be presented at the chapter’s 23rd annual gala, March 25 in downtown Los Angeles. CMAA represents more than 11,000 firms and individuals, with a focus on promoting the use of construction managers on projects.
Lundgren served as construction manager for the 13 million project that was completed for SBCC on time, starting work in August 2012 and wrapping up in January 2014.
“We put a lot of pride into the work we carry out for our clients, and receiving an award such as this is a reminder how much hard work pays off” company President Dale Lundgren said. “We are thankful for the opportunity to work on such a great project for SBCC, and thankful to CMAA for this honor.”
In addition to its work for SBCC, Lundgren will also be receiving the CMAA award for the 2015 Silver Member Firm of the Year.
The award is presented to companies that have gone above and beyond in supporting their CMAA chapter and encouraging their employees to get involved.
Lundgren has been a CMAA member for nearly 20 years, and this year marks the company’s second and third awards from the association.
In 2014, Lundgren was named Bronze Member Firm of the Year. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in the field.
“Lundgren Management serves as an example of what CMAA tries to promote: professionalism and excellence in the management of the construction process,” Project Awards Chairman Adrian Cohen said. “Lundgren delivered a complex renovation project to its client on time and on budget by the use of their sophisticated cost and schedule management tools and their overall team leadership.”
Lundgren’s work for SBCC on the 51,969-square-foot project involved making changes to a building dating to the 1970s.
Most prominent was the construction of a new, three-story elevator tower, which adds a new method of access in addition to Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.
In addition to numerous exterior upgrades, Lundgren made a number of interior improvements including replacement of walls and ceilings, upgrades to electrical and plumbing systems and replacement of various finishes.
“Hiring Lundgren Management to provide pre-construction and construction management services for Santa Barbara City College’s major capital outlay projects has proven to be an excellent strategy toward successfully completing projects on time and within projected budget,” said Julie Hendricks, senior director of Facilities, Planning and Campus Development at Santa Barbara City College.
In addition to new construction, modernization is another area in which Lundgren specializes and excels.
“It’s always great when we can improve a site through modernization, bringing it up to code, equipping it for modern technology and also giving it a facelift,” said Shawn Fonder, Lundgren’s vice president of program and client services. “Investment in modernization, particularly among schools, helps them stay at the forefront of providing the best facilities possible.”
The modernization project also marked the first time that SBCC has utilized the Lease-Leaseback construction delivery method.
Lundgren has found that clients are continually satisfied with the LLB process, which encourages bidding contractors to provide a bare-minimum scope in their proposal rather than simply seeking to be the lowest bidder.
The process allows for work to be based on qualifications instead of mere dollar amounts.
