East of Borneo, a contemporary online art journal supported by CalArts School of Art, and LACMA will present the fifth annual Art + Feminism meetup, a global do-it-yourself campaign to improve the coverage of women, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia at LACMA on Sunday, March 25, starting at noon.

This year’s Los Angeles event will focus on the topic of “Women and Film” with a nod to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements that have risen to address gender inequality and sexual harassment in the film industry and beyond.

The afternoon will kick off with a panel discussion with Claudia Puig (president, Los Angeles Film Critics Association) and Lucy Mukerjee-Brown (director of programming, Outfest) moderated by Dilcia Barrera (associate curator of film programs, LACMA).

At 2 p.m., East of Borneo editor and Art + Feminism regional ambassador Stacey Allan will lead a training workshop on how to create and edit Wikipedia articles.

Then, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Edit-a-thon will commence. Attendees are asked to bring their own laptops or tablets, power sources and any reference materials to work from or share. LACMA’s Balch Art Research Library catalog will also be available for use.

The event is free and open to Wikipedia beginners and people of all gender expressions and identities and online registration is required. Children coming with their parents can attend the free Andell Family Sunday activities during the day.

Founded in 2014, Art + Feminism has organized more than 500 events across six continents to amplify the voices of women online by creating meaningful changes to articles about gender, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia, the largest and most popular general reference work on the Internet.
