NORTHRIDGE – CSUN resumes Big West softball action as the Matadors travel to Cal State Fullerton this weekend.

The three-game set gets underway on Friday with a single game that begins at 6:00 p.m. Saturday’s doubleheader game is set for 1:00 p.m. All three games will be streamed on BigWest.tv.

Cal State Fullerton opened Big West play by sweeping UC Santa Barbara last weekend in Santa Barbara. The Titans are 23-13 overall. Cal State Fullerton swept the Big West weekly awards as Kelsie Whitmore was named Field Player of the Week, Sophie Frost was named Pitcher of the Week, and Dani Martinez was named Freshman of the Week.

Whitmore hit .545 (6-for-11), scored two runs and had two RBIs at UCSB. Frost threw 14.2 innings of scoreless ball and finished 2-0 with both wins coming during the UC Santa Barbara series. Martinez appeared three times last week and registered a 1-0 record with a 2.90 ERA over 9.2 innings pitched. This weekend’s series will mark the 115th, 116th, and 117th times that CSUN and Cal State Fullerton will be playing softball. The Titans lead the all-time series 75-38-1 and have won eight in a row in the series.

CSUN (17-19) dropped two of three to UC Davis to open league play last weekend. The Aggies defeated the Matadors 4-2 and 1-0 on Saturday before CSUN handed UCD a 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

Mackenzie Babbitt hit .385 during the weekend including a 2-for-3, 2-stolen base performance on Sunday. Babbitt is 11-11 in stolen bases this season. A senior, Babbitt is now 41-45 for her Matador career in the category.

Junior Megan Stevens is second in Division I in doubles with 16 this week. Stevens is also third in D-1 in doubles per game (0.44). She ninth in Division I in hits (49), ninth in total bases (93), 15th in slugging percentage (.877), 18th in RBI (40), 33rd in on-base percentage (.528), and 130th in home runs per game (0.22).

Sophomore Jillian James is off to a strong start in the circle. Her 158 strikeouts are second in the Big West Conference and rank her 11th in Division I to start the week of Apr. 1. James’ strikeouts per seven innings average of 8.5 is the 41st best in Division I while her strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.85 is the 73rd in Division I. She is 72n in D-1 in hits allowed per seven innings (5.14).
