Happy Holidays to those who really don’t know what to celebrate or why they celebrate. Happy Run-Up-Your -Debt Day. Or Happy Festivus. Happy Happy. Whatever floats your boat, as they say.
Unless you want to go back to pre-Catholic Church days, it’s simply Christmas. Yes, for those of you scholars who think you’re going to school me, save your brain cells and voice waves. I know, as do millions of others Christians, that Christ was not born in the dead of winter. We got it. Thanks. Jesus was probably born closer to the end of summer, based on the shepherds still in the fields and the animals still grazing.
Yes, the Catholic Church moved the celebration of Christ’s birth, as they did with other events, to line up with a pagan holiday, not because they wanted to be like pagans, but because they were trying to draw in more people.
My mother was born in Italy at a time when records were not kept well for years. We celebrated her birthday on June 15. She eventually found out her birthday was June 6, not the 15th. OMG. What do we do now? Was she not born? Is she not real? Was her whole life a fake? No.
Even if you don’t believe Jesus is Lord, nearly every religion acknowledges Him as a real person and as a prophet or, at a minimum, a very righteous and good man who went about spreading love.
Christmas is CHRISTmas. Yes, the fat man in the red suit worked his way in. The tree worked its way in. The green man, Mr. Grinch (one of my favorites), worked his way in. Traditions have come and gone, but the one that remains now and always is Jesus.
He’s not a tradition. He is real. He was born and gave His life for all of us. That’s why it’s CHRISTmas.
As I predicted last year, a school district recently removed the Luke Bible verse from a Charlie Brown Christmas play. It was only a matter of time. Let’s look at that nasty scripture they had to pull out.
Luke 2:8-14 from the New International Version (NIV): 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Terrible, just terrible. How dare you fill the heads of young people with love and peace? The Jews of the day and others were waiting for a savior, a person coming from God to bring them out of the land of Egypt. If you don’t believe in God or the Bible, then this is simply a great story of hope.
You tell your kids fairy tales all the time … Easter bunny, tooth fairy, and that’s all good, right? You tell them about witches, werewolves and vampires, and it’s all good, right? But a supposed “fairy tale” about God sending His son to rescue man from his sin is just too terrible. And how dare He push “peace on Earth goodwill towards men” on us?
With all of the nasties going on in the world, people are looking for answers, people want peace and hope, and you have a problem with this story?
Wow. Better we should tell a new “holiday” fairy tale on how government is the answer to all your woes; like how Mr. Obama will save you from all the ills in the world and keep us from freezing or melting to death. Like how he will save you from educational or medical debt. Like the fairy tale that the only real extremists are Christians and other religions, but there is no such thing as Muslim extremists.
Yes, you can buy all that horsepucky stuff, but … a real God, sending his real Son to give us hope and love is impossible to swallow?
I’ve got some bad news for the nay-sayers. A large majority, over 72 percent, of Americans still believe in God. Even those who don’t believe in God recognize Christ as a real person who spread love and joy and still feel that celebrating Christmas in honor of His life is a good thing and that “Happy Holidays,” though a nice gesture, is not the same as “Merry Christmas.”
For a brief period of time, yes, Christmastime, more people are employed, families take the time to come together, and as painful as it is sometimes, work to enjoy each other’s company.
And even the atheist, non-Christmas believer takes advantage of this time. They usually get the day off with pay or work it at double time and a half. The government takes the Christmas break off. (So much for separation of church and state – where is that in the Constitution again?)
And for those of us who really understand the meaning of the season, we got the best gift of all. Yup, Jesus. The ultimate gift given to us. And He really is the reason for the season and the reason we have the season.
So whether you believe or not, whether you prefer “Happy Holidays” or not, I’ve prosperous New Year from my family to yours.”

Why oust Julie? Because he has different views than you?! I think we have enough liberals in our school districts, it would be nice for some balance there. In the meantime go find s safe space if you can’t hack it!
The public needs to know what kind of people are on our school board. I’m appalled he is on it. Remember he is only there because nobody ran against him. Im sure this will be his last term.
Of course you are offended, you are a liberal and you do not want to tolerate anything other than liberalism. End of story! People with different political backgrounds should be able to keep their jobs!! Not lose them because some one is offended by their views! Like I said , go find a safe place!!
This is a safe place!
Oh good, I am glad you feel that way. I guess I won’t have to worry about you wanting to take our guns then!
Yeah , you would like that dopey loser
?
It’s been fun!
Julie Keim Hannant That is an out and out lie. Joe went 3 won his seat in a 5 person race in 2009. In 2013 you lazy liberals didn’t put anyone up against any of the candidates. I am sure Joe is excited to whip whatever poor sap runs against him in 2017. https://ballotpedia.org/Joe_Messina
Like she said and now you said, no one ran against him….
Jennifer, just curious- how many “liberals” do we currently have in our school districts, and how many is too many? You say we have “enough”- how many is that?
Jason this is my opinion, don’t make it more than it is.
Jennifer Rodriguez I totally get that it’s your opinion, and it’s fine to have it- I just wanted to know on what it was based.
Jennifer Rodriguez freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. Just that you won’t be arrested and thrown in jail by the government for your views. There are consequences for hateful views if enough people are displeased with those opinions.
This is the consequence of conservativism the concentration of wealth and millions with nothing
I haven’t seen or heard of
any hateful things from Joe. So far it just looks like people want him oust because they disagree with his views, they can’t handle it! Freedom of speech is not a one way street.
Seems right, you know that 1% employs people…right?!
Jason who the hell are you that I have to explain anything. Sorry bud, not interested.
Pretty sad you refer to a safe place…. usually meant to help developmentally disabled, but keep throwing it around if it makes you feel better.
Jennifer Rodriguez Hey, it’s certainly your right not to explain anything- just as it’s also your right to state that that there are “enough liberals in our school districts” without being able to quantify how many liberals there are, how many we should have, or even why “liberals in our school districts” is bad.
I’m just wondering if you’re exercising the right not to explain because you can’t.
Jennifer Rodriguez If you’d look back at his comments, it seems to me that Jason was being rather respectful and, if anything, hoping to engage in a civil, educated dialogue with you in order to further understand your viewpoints. However, when he simply asked you to present the facts supoprting your feelings, you immediately become defensive and attack him when YOU were the one to so “liberally” post your opinions and feelings on this feed. You seemed to automatically assume Jason disagrees with your philosophies. Maybe he does, but so what? It is a democracy, right? For the sake of our community and America as a whole, please feel free to engage in a civil, educated exchange of thoughts. Shutting others down without supporting evidence/facts (hell, or even opinions) is quite the contrary.
Jennifer Rodriguez Joe has every right to express his feelings, just like the people of the SCV have the right to express that they think his thoughts are, perhaps, a little obtuse.
We live in a republic not a democracy. Please refer to the pledge of allegiance. That is exactly what I am talking about Alex, liberals want to shut down anyone who is not part of the agenda, it’s getting kinda old and bothersome. As for Jason , I bet he can fight his own battle if he felt like it. As for you, if you don’t like the way I put things at times to bad I’m not changing for you or anybody. Don’t like it don’t engage.

Awesome! I’m going to talk my husband into going over to his favorite shave ice place today! Wish me luck!
How well did that work? I laughed at you people then, and I laugh now. You people were too damn lazy to run someone against the guy, but you are not to lazy to start the nearly impossible task of recalling? To even think about a recall you would have to raise a 100k to get even started.
Joe-It’s President Obama, not Mr. Obama. I realize if he was white you would likely be more respectful.
allahu ackbar
So much I’d like to say about this… but a simple “LOL” and a roll of the eyes will have to suffice as the comments section would likely again divulge into a mediocre war of lame, misinterpreted memes.
This is true.. Nicely stated Joe… Despite what the grumpies will surely say…
Amen! Thanks for sharing that.
If “government” can’t do anything right why do you trust the “terrorism” narrative? It’s theater to secure “defense” contracts. Smartphones are more likely to cause you harm.
