Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, accompanied by Miss Teen Santa Clarita Valley Sarah Rafeh, shopped for holiday gifts Monday with the crime victims at City Target in Los Angeles as part of the Heroes & Helpers event.
“For 30 years, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has worked to make the holiday season extra special for children victimized by crime,” District Attorney Lacey said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to team with Target in support of families who have endured heartbreaking circumstances.”
The in-store shopping experience at City Target in downtown Los Angeles was made possible by a donation from the retailer.
More than 30 children and adults affected by crimes received gift cards to spend on presents for themselves and their families.
Target’s Heroes & Helpers program pairs public safety officials with underprivileged youth.
Participating families were nominated by members of the District Attorney’s staff. At the event, personnel from the District Attorney’s Office helped children select their wish-list items.
The shopping event was part of a larger holiday giving drive which altogether benefits more than 200 families affected by violent crimes. Each year, the District Attorney’s Office raises approximately $25,000 for families in need through this seasonal endeavor.
“The holidays can be a difficult time for victims of crime,” District Attorney Lacey said. “This annual tradition allows us to bring hope and joy to these deserving families.”
