– The District Attorney’s Office filed assault charges against a Newhall man arrested on a separate murder charge over the weekend, officials said.
Robert Arvizu, 48, of Newhall, is being charged with two counts of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury against a man in a separate, unrelated event.
That assault reportedly occurred May 23, according to a District Attorney’s Office spokesman.
Robert Arvizu remains the lone suspect in the murder of his wife, Courtney Arvizu, a 25-year-old also from Santa Clarita.
That case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
Deputies discovered Courtney Arvizu unresponsive, with injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, in her home around 2:10 a.m. Saturday.
She was declared dead at the scene.
She married Robert Arvizu in March, according to a Facebook post linked to Courtney Arvizu.
Robert Arvizu is being held in lieu of $560,000 bail in the assault case.
He’s being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.

Did not know any of the parties involved but completely saddened for all that were close to Courtney. Sending healing to all that are in pain.
This whole situation sucks, makes me sick I know Rob and I can’t see him doing this. He was a good friend and always looked out for me and I always felt safe around him so for this to be happening baffles me.

Put it this way, the only people that really know what happened are the two of them and God. His family members and children may be reading these comments. If you weren’t there then maybe everyone should consider and respect that both families are suffering through this tragedy

it is about justice, and he has priors and I knew courtney forever and she is a wonderful person and sister and daughter!
Obviously he did it, he was in the house, and I grew up with Courtney, a 98 pound girl. I think everyone needs to know she was an angel on earth and this guy should get death penalty. He has no excuse, and her family is reading this as well, And maybe you shouldnt feel so safe.
