The Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library is offering community members an opportunity to be part of a special story as a sponsor at the City’s new Old Town Newhall Library, which will open on Saturday, Sept. 29.
“The Santa Clarita Public Library plays an important role in our community for residents of all ages,” says Mayor Frank Ferry. “By making a donation to the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library, community members and businesses are providing a special gift that will not only leave a lasting legacy in the new Old Town Newhall Library, but also provide support and funding for programming and library needs for future generations.”
Sponsorship naming opportunities for areas in the new Old Town Newhall Library include: the children’s area, children’s story room, teen area, adult reading porch, homework center, computer lab, literacy lab, five study rooms, library stacks, computer lounge chairs, and 50 wood guest chairs.
Every sponsor will receive a unique nameplate, which will be on display in their designated area, guaranteeing each donor’s legacy within the Old Town Newhall Library. Sponsorship opportunities range from $50 to $10,000 for various areas. All donated proceeds will benefit the Santa Clarita Public Library.
In its first year, the library has issued approximately 53,000 library cards, seen attendance of more than 704,000 customers and offered 773 programs attended by more than 25,300 patrons. The statistics for the Santa Clarita Public Library’s first year provide the City with a strong foundation on which to develop and grow library services in the coming years, beginning with the grand opening of a new and larger library.
The new, state-of-the-art, 30,000 square foot Old Town Newhall Library includes a children’s library, teen room, over 100 public use computers, a fireplace reading room, community meeting areas, outdoor courtyard and much more. There will be a total book and media capacity of more than 135,000 items accessible for the public to enjoy on a daily basis.
Opening day festivities will include a grand opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. with the City Council and a literary-inspired street fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, in Old Town Newhall.
