Candace Fleece
Newhall School District Board officials recently recognized retiring administrator Candace Fleece, a teacher and administrator in the Newhall School District for 23 years.
“She left a deep footprint in this district,” said Jeff Pelzel, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.
Fleece started out as substitute teacher at Meadows Elementary School in 1996. She then moved on to Stevenson Ranch Elementary where she taught until 2004. She later became the assistant Principal of Stevenson Ranch Elementary and then the Principal.
“Candy knew every kid in her school by name,” said Pelzel. “She knew if they were behind or accelerated.”
Fleece has been working for the last year and a half on staff development, according to Alexis Yannich, the Assistant Superintendent Human Resources. Fleece would concentrate on common core and trained teachers, traveling to all four sites to model lessons and observe classrooms.
Candace had a great knowledge of teaching and learning, said Pelzel.
“She’s the epitome of a dedicated professional,” said Pelzel. “Kids always came first, she’s a remarkable woman.”
“Our board wished her the best of luck in her retirement,” said board members.
