Welcome to this edition of Pilar’s Pocketbook. This week Califormia State Assemblywoman Pilar Schavio (D-Chatsworth) offers crucial information to help navigate tax filings and ensure entitled benefits are received.sS

From extended deadlines to claiming tax credits for previous years, this weeks edition has it covered. Don’t miss out on valuable resources and assistance available.

2023 Taxes: Extension Information

1. Still need to file taxes this year? Don’t owe taxes? It’s not too late to file. October 15 is the final date to file with no penalties. Find out what you qualify for and find a free tax preparer near you at caleitc.org.

Claim Tax Credits

2. Did you know that you can claim tax credits for up to the previous three years when you file your taxes? As long as you claim your credits before October, you still have time. Visit caleitc4me.org/fileyourtaxes for more information and to find out how you can file for free.

Tax Credits for Families with Kids

3. Do you have children living at home? If you earned less than $30,931 in 2023, make sure you’ve filed your taxes to claim all of your related tax credits, including the California Earned Income Tax Credit, Young Child Tax Credit & Child Tax Credit. Didn’t file? You still have time if you don’t owe anything. Find free, IRS-trained help at CalEITC4Me.org/fileyourtaxes.

Did you know that if you qualified for the YCTC or CalEITC this year you might qualify for more help? Learn about the many different programs available at caleitc4me.org/do-you-qualify-for-more-help/.

Help Get the Maximum Cash Back

4. Did you file your taxes? Did you get the maximum cash back tax credit possible? You can have an IRS-certified tax preparer review your documents for up to 3 years in the past. Have questions? Learn more at caleitc4me.org/frequently-asked-Questions.

Tax Credits with an Individual Taxpayer ID Number

5. Don’t have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)? Want to learn more about how to secure one and claim your tax credits? Visit caleitc4me.org/i-am-an-itin-holder for more information.
