2000 - Rancho Camulos designated a National Historic Landmark [story]
Rancho Camulos

[LASD Newsroom] – Palmdale Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Sierra Highway near Red Rover Mine Road in Acton regarding a low flying aircraft Thursday at 1:10 p.m.

When they arrived they discovered that the plane, a 1946 single-engine Ercoupe 415-c, had already landed on Sierra Highway. The plane’s pilot, a 77-year-old male Long Beach resident and the sole passenger, a 65-year-old female Long Beach resident were not injured.

The pilot said he had recently purchased the plane and taken off from nearby Fox Field in Lancaster, and was headed to Long Beach Airport when he experienced a mechanical failure and was forced to land on the highway. No traffic collisions occurred and no people were injured. Sheriff’s Aero Bureau and Federal Aviation Administration investigators responded. FAA will be investigating further. The aircraft has since been removed from the highway.
