Three players from the Foothill League were selected to the Cal-Hi Sports all state softball team.
Maddy Jelenicki from Saugus, Kylie Sorenson from West Ranch and Kristina Brackpool from Valencia earned spots on the all state team.
Sorenson, a shortstop at West Ranch bound for Stanford, was the two-time Foothill League player of the year.
Brackpool, the Valencia first baseman, will continue her softball career at Penn State.
Jelenicki was selected to the Cal-Hi Sports all-state underlass first team. The junior catcher was the only player from the Foothill League chosen for the all-state underclass team. She hit .576 and led the Centurions with nine home runs and 31 RBIs in her junior season.
In baseball, the Dodgers shut out the Colorado Rockies, 8-0, and moved out of last place in the National League West standings.
Cincinnati Reds starter Homer Bailey no-hit the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers are 2½ games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants are now in last place in the NL West.
Clayton Kershaw tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight against the Rockies. Yasiel Puig hit a solo home run in the seventh inning and went 3-for-5. He is hitting .443 with eight home runs.
The Dodgers also addressed their bullpen woes by trading for Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol. The Dodgers sent Matt Guerrier to Chicago for the former Cubs closer.
The Dodgers continue their series against the Rockies tonight. Zack Greinke starts for the Dodgers against Tyler Chatwood for the Rockies.
