Allyson Felix, Santa Clarita’s most decorated Olympic athlete, tore her hamstring in the 200 meter final at the world championships in Moscow, Russia, and did not finish the race.

She was in position to win a record fourth world title in the 200. She won three gold medals at the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. One of her gold medals was in the 200.

She entered the race as the top qualifier winning her semifinal race in 22.30 seconds. But she injured herself in the turn and had to be carried off the track.

An MRI revealed she tore the hamstring in her right leg.

Canyon High graduate Alysia Montano was fourth in the 800 meters at the world championships in Russia. She won her heat race and her semifinal race in the 800. She led the race for the first 400 meters but faded at the end.

Kenya’s Eunice Jepkoech Sum won the 800. Brenda Martinez from San Bernardino finished third and became the first woman from the United States to medal in the 800 since the world championships began in 1983.

In auto racing, David Mayhew won both of the Twin 35 races in the CITGO Late Models at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

Santa Clarita’s Rich DeLong won the street stocks race, his second in a row.

Only five street stock cars started the race and three dropped out with mechanical failures. DeLong won the 15-lap race.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2, and saw their 10-game winning streak snapped.

The Dodgers have lost only four games since the All Star break. They are in first place in the National League West standings and have a 7 ½ game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers are in Miami to start a three-game series with the Marlins tonight.
