The City of Santa Clarita invites residents to celebrate the grand opening of the new Old Town Newhall Library on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Santa Clarita City Council will kick off the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in front of the library, followed by a street fair with a literary emphasis that will continue until 4:00 p.m.

“The new Old Town Newhall Library will become a central part of our City offering a variety of resources for residents of all ages,” says Mayor Frank Ferry. “The Library will provide a range of educational and cultural activities, social programs and free services that will engage all community members.”

The grand opening ceremony will be complemented by a street fair with a literacy emphasis with 25 booths featuring authors, games, activities, music, giveaways, and food trucks. Activities will include two stages with readings from authors including children’s books, western historical books and cookbooks, as well as tours of the Walk of Western Stars with information on the various western legends, tables to play word games, and tours of Old Town Newhall. Local businesses joining the celebration include: Brave New World, OutWest, Whole Foods, Chick-fil-A, Ice Station Valencia, Barnes & Noble, Costco, OTNA, Canyon Theatre Guild, Repertory East Playhouse, CLWA, Book Bound Publishing, Math Support Services, Dr. Thomas Polucki, Super Sibling Comics, The Daily Zoo, Once Upon a Time, The Orthodox Bookstore, Care Learning Academy, Epiphany Schwartz, Chic Modish, Railroad Café, Chris Ayers, and Art Tree among others. Performances scheduled include Nathalia Palis, Jean Sudbury & Greg Schneeman, Men of Harmony, Santa Clarita Folklorico and the City of Santa Clarita Community Center Strings Group.

Residents will also have the opportunity to explore the new, state-of-the-art, 30,000 square foot Old Town Newhall Library, which offers more than 135,000 literary items, 68 public use computers, private study spaces, and meeting rooms. Additional highlights of the Library include a children’s library, teen study area, a fireplace reading Ramada, community meeting areas, an outdoor courtyard, art and photographic displays, an artistic replication of Beale’s Cut, and original works of art.
