LAKE ELSINORE – Garrett Schilling (pictured above) went seven scoreless innings and helped lead the JetHawks to their first shutout of the season, 2-0, against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday night at The Diamond.
Schilling (4-2), who was named Cal League Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day, allowed only a hit in the first inning in his seven-inning start. He struck out six, did not issue a walk and hit a batter.
With the shutout, the right-hander becomes the first JetHawk pitcher to four wins this season and has now tossed 13-consecutive scoreless innings.
Ramon Marcelino accounted for all the scoring in the game when he hit a two-run home run off reliever Jose Castillo (0-1) in the top of the fifth inning. The homer was his 10th of the season.
Tommy Doyle struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to notch his ninth save. Nick Kennedy walked one batter in a hitless eighth inning to bridge the gap between Schilling and Doyle.
The one-hit shutout is the first for Lancaster pitching since Jesus Tinoco and Carlos Polanco combined to one-hit the Modesto Nuts at The Hangar on May 11, 2017.
The win snapped Lancaster’s three-game losing streak and a four-game losing streak against Lake Elsinore.
Here’s the box score.
The five-game series wraps up on Tuesday in Lake Elsinore. Antonio Santos starts for Lancaster against Luis Patiño. First pitch is 6 p.m.
