Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested seven people in a retail crime enforcement effort in Canyon Country on Saturday, according to station officials.

“In continuing to combat crime, detectives along with patrol deputies, conducted a retail theft/crime suppression operation on Saturday, Jan. 26.

“The operation was centered at the retail stores located on the 19100 block of Golden Valley Road and netted seven arrests, the recovery of stolen merchandise, and the seizure of illegal narcotics.

“Detectives wore regular clothes in the retail stores to catch unsuspecting shoplifters off-guard, while deputies cruised the parking lot in unmarked cars.

“During the last two months, SCV Sheriff’s deputies and deputies partnered with loss prevention agents from several commercial and retail stores within SCV, conducting undercover and saturation operations to crack down on retail thefts.

“The two-month span of operations targeted nine separate locations within the Santa Clarita Valley. During the operations, deputies made 21 arrests for the following crimes; theft, possession of burglary tools, drug possession, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled substance, outstanding warrants and more.

“These retail theft operations are one of many crime suppression operations and strategies being implemented by SCV Sheriff’s (Station deputies). The Crime Prevention Unit, Detective Bureau, specialized teams, and administrative staff constantly evaluate crime trends in and around the Santa Clarita Valley.

“We receive tips, leads and support from the community on a daily basis from residents, loss prevention agents, employees who work in the Santa Clarita Valley and other law enforcement agencies.

“Think twice before committing a crime — you never know who’s watching.”
