Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials are urging residents not to leave valuable items in vehicles that might attract break-ins.
Here’s more from the station’s social media:
“Tuesday night, the Stevenson Ranch Crime Prevention deputy gave special attention to monitoring shopping center parking lots on The Old Road due to a recent rise in vehicle break-ins.
“In some of the thefts, vehicles were entered through unlocked doors, and in other cases, windows of vehicles were smashed when valuable property was left in open sight.
“The most commonly reported items stolen include handbags, wallets, credit cards, backpacks and laptop computers.
“Please remain vigilant in securing your valuables and locking up. Do not leave ANYTHING visible that could tempt a thieve to break a window.
“Contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station if any suspicious person is spotted that appears to be ‘casing vehicles.’ The station’s non-emergency number is 661-255-1121, and for emergencies, call 911.

Blows my mind that there are STILL people so situationally unaware that they leave valuables in plain sight and do not lock their car doors.
Those people scare me.
