The ARTree Community Arts Center plans to install its second reincarnation of its Ever-Changing Wall, a prominent, 150-foot photographic mural, on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Newhall Avenue and Ninth Street.

The photographic mural is expected to feature large-scale photographs of local children taken by local teen artists and volunteers at the ARTree Community Arts Center. The photo selection for the wall was done in August from more than 1,000 stills.

The ARTree partnered with organizations including the Newhall Community Center and the SCV Boys and Girls Club to feature local children from their organizations on the wall.

In 2011, the ARTree’s first installation of the Ever-Changing wall featured photographic images instilled on a paper medium that endured for four months.

In the second installation of the photomural, the massive images are expected to be  on vinyl panels that withstand heat and other potential elements in the Santa Clarita Valley. The 2013 photo mural has a longer estimated life of five years.

The mural will have three complete walls instead of two like the photo mural in 2011, according to Bob Hernandez, ARTree president.

“This wall has a few differences from the mural in 2011. The images will not just be images of the children’s faces like in the 2011 wall. The children will be holding different paint brushes and other props. I’m excited to see the whole result,” said Hernandez.

The celebration of the implementation of the Ever-Changing Wall will culminate with a formal ceremony and unveiling of the wall which will occur in late September.

“The main purpose behind this mural is we want to make a statement about the arts. We want people in Santa Clarita to be aware that children desperately need the arts, both performing and visual,“ said ARTree president Bob Hernandez.

“Over 40,000 people drive by that area and I’m pretty sure they won’t be able to miss this beautiful mural,” Hernandez said with a laugh.
