Sen. Sharon Runner
By now I’m sure you have seen the news that I will not be seeking another term in the State Senate. My doctors have stressed that I cannot continue with the schedule I feel is necessary to give you the representation you deserve, and I have decided to listen to their advice.
This is a difficult letter to write, just as it was a difficult decision to make. I only reached this conclusion after a great deal of prayer, thought, and discussions with my family and doctors.
I firmly believe that God works all things together for good, and I have never doubted His plan or hand in my life. I did not think my journey would include Scleroderma and the health issues it has caused over the years. However, I also never could have imagined the blessings that would come from my lung transplant and second chance at life – more time with George, the ability to watch my grandkids grow up, and the fact that I was able to return to the Senate to once again work for the community I love.
I have lived in the 21st Senate District my entire life and the opportunity to represent my home in the Legislature has been a special blessing. It is something I will always be grateful for. Your unending support and encouragement made it possible, and I cannot thank you enough.
While I grieve that when my current term ends in December I will no longer be your elected representative, I look forward to many more years of continuing to serve our community together.
As always, it is a privilege to represent you in the California State Senate.
Sharon Runner represents California’s 21st Senate District, which includes communities in the Santa Clarita, Antelope and Victor valleys.
