San Bernardino Strong

San Bernardino symbolOn December 2, 2015 our community was shaken by the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001. The shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino will have a lasting impact on us all.

I am incredibly thankful for the wonderful law enforcement officers and first responders who showed leadership and worked bravely to protect the innocent lives involved in this tragedy. I have also been touched by the stories of everyday citizens who did everything they could to ensure the safety of those around them.

We live in uncertain times, and it is easy to be overcome by fear. However, in the aftermath of this attack, I have seen San Bernardino County come together with strength and unity. We are resilient.

As you may know, I made the decision to run for elected office on September 11, 2001. I was in Sacramento to meet with Legislative leaders while trying to decide if I should run for the Assembly. George and I watched the news and couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Then and there, I decided to enter the race; I felt compelled to serve our Country in any way possible. I continue to be thankful for the opportunity to serve you, particularly in tough times.

Moving forward, it is important for local, state and federal government officials to act like leaders and work together to stop those who want to harm our communities. You have my word that I will do my part to make sure this happens.

Business of the Month: Johnson Construction and Development

Each month I recognize exceptional business owners around my District by highlighting a “Business of the Month.” If you would like to nominate a business for future newsletters, please call my Antelope Valley office at (661) 729-6232.

Located in Victorville, Johnson Construction and Development, Inc. is a general contractor specializing in commercial construction. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Johnson Construction and was very impressed with the work they are doing.

A few weeks ago, Johnson Construction and Development kicked off the Holiday season by hosting their “Fill the Fifth Wheel” event, where they collected toys to donate to the High Desert Homeless Shelter.

I am thankful the 21st Senate District is home to generous businesses like Johnson Construction and Development who are committed to bettering our community. It is my honor to recognize them as the December 2015 Business of the Month!
