Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials have reminded residents there’s a 72-hour limit on street parking, after Crime Prevention Unit deputies red-tagged more than half a dozen vehicles Tuesday.

“On Tuesday morning, Crime Prevention Unit deputies went out to check a few streets that were brought to their attention in Saugus and Stevenson Ranch.

“On one Saugus street, half a dozen vehicles were ‘red-tagged’ and another vehicle was towed.

“When a vehicle has a red tag left by deputies in the windshield, it serves as a warning to the owner that a vehicle can’t be left on a street for more than 72 consecutive hours in the same spot, or it will be presumed abandoned.

“If the vehicle is not moved, it is subject to being towed.

“When deputies checked out the vehicles on the streets brought to their attention, it was obvious that some cars had been parked for a while by their appearance.

“Interestingly enough, when deputies checked registered owner information on the ‘abandoned vehicles,’ the owners did not even live in the immediate vicinity of that neighborhood. One registered owner’s information came back to Los Angeles.

“We not only want to keep the crime rate down in SCV, but we want to also keep the neighborhoods looking nice for the residents we serve.”
