The suspicious package found near gas pumps at the Shell gas station at Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway was X-rayed by sheriff’s Arson and Explosives personnel and found to be an empty box. The gas station has been reopened.
At 12:56, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious package call at the Shell gas station where an employee found a black box (3’x2’x1’) near the gas pumps with the word SONY written on it.
No threats were received, but a review of the location’s surveillance video showed a male taking a box from the bed of his pickup truck and placing it on the ground near the gas pumps. He then went into the location and bought some food, but drove off without the box. Arson Explosives Detail was called out as a precaution.
When they arrived, they examined and X-rayed the package and found it to be empty.

Original story:
The Shell gas station near the Westfield Valencia Town Center at the corner of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway has been cordoned off as a precaution after a suspicious package was found near the gas pumps.
According to Sgt. Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley station, a call was received around 1 p.m. that a black box had been found next to the pumps and was not recognized by the station staff.
“Because of today’s climate, we’re taking precautions and our Arson and Explosives guys are on the way to check it out,” Allen said.
Access to the station has been restricted and will be lifted after investigators arrive and determine what the box contains.
