[KHTS] – The most seriously injured teen among the five who were involved in a crash Saturday, when a Honda Accord struck a pole on Newhall Ranch Road, is recovering in an intensive care unit.

Kelly Watson, a 15-year-old sophomore, is recovering and her family has been encouraged by her progress, her family said through district officials.

Four Canyon High students were in the car, and some of the occupants were not wearing seat belts in the crash, according to initial reports.

Fire Department paramedics followed up on two of the patients, which had more severe injuries.

A second student who also was ejected from the vehicle was released from the hospital late Tuesday, and “is sore and recovering from abrasions from the accident, but the family anticipates a full recovery,” according to an email from Hart district Spokeswoman Gail Pinsker.

One girl, who received a broken wrist in the crash, is home and expected to make a full recovery.

There was no information provided about the fourth Canyon High student, however, she was not believed to be seriously hurt in the crash.

There was no information available on the fifth student, who attends Opportunities For Learning, an independent charter school of the Hart district.

The cause of the single-car crash is still under investigation by deputies with the Traffic Unit of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The crash came just one week after the beginning of White Ribbon Week, which asks members of Hart district schools’ graduating classes to make a pledge to drive safe.

“The safety of all our students is our No. 1 priority,” Pinsker said.
