SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — 2015 proved to be another exciting year for The Master’s College Athletic Department. Across the board, TMC’s student-athletes produced some of the most memorable moments in school history. The countdown of the top ten moments of 2015 continues with number two.
2) TMC Cross Country Teams Post Best Combined National Finish in School History
On Nov. 21, Karis Frankian placed fifth out of 321 runners at 17 minutes, 37 seconds, while younger sister Abigail Frankian was 11th place after clocking a time of 17:51 in the 5K race at the 2015 NAIA Cross Country National Championships at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.
The Frankian sisters were pegged as NAIA All-Americans, as the top 30 finishers walk away with the aforementioned honors. Notably, Karis Frankian is TMC’s first women’s cross country athlete to earn NAIA All-American honors on three separate occasions (2012, 2014, 2015).
Collectively, the Mustangs finished seventh out of a field of 35 teams, with a cumulative time of 1:49:3. The Mustangs’ seventh-place finish is the highest a TMC women’s cross country team has ever placed at the NAIA National Championship. These accolades came after a successful spring track season where Karis Frankian and Charity Schroeder earned NAIA All-American honors.
Meanwhile, the men’s team finished ninth out of 36 teams, with a collective time of 2:09:43.1 at the National Championships.
The Mustangs were just one spot away from tying their highest team finish in program history (eighth in 2012). Individually, Josh Sherfey clinched 25th overall to earn NAIA All-American honors after finishing the 8K race in 25:11.
