[KHTS] – Country music legend Willie Nelson played a sold-out crowd at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at COC on Saturday, with a more than two-hour set that included all of his classic hits.
The show was a family affair for Willie Nelson, with his son Lukas’s band, Promise Of The Real, featuring Lukas’s brother, Micah, and an appearance by Willie’s sister, Bobbie, all helping to make for a great show and leaving fans on their feet.
The show welcomed a crowd to the PAC at College of the Canyons, with bolo ties and cowboy hats coming two weeks earlier than normal in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Nelson’s set list included hits such as “On The Road Again,” “Crazy” and a few fan-favorite covers, such as “Texas Flood,'” the Stevie Ray Vaughan classic.
Also known as the “Red Headed Stranger,” the name of a 1975 album he recorded for Columbia Records, the 80-year-old musician has been a mainstay in the country music scene for about six decades, and he still maintains a busy touring schedule.
Nelson played in Riverside on Friday night, and he’s playing in Turlock on Sunday.
The one-night only show at College of the Canyons drew more than 900 fans, and quickly sold out after tickets went on sale back in January.
The show was preceded by a 6 p.m. reception at the PAC.
The event was an apt precursor to the 2014 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, which takes place in April.
The 21st annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival is less than a month away. This decades-long tradition in the SCV will be hosted once again by Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27
