For the first time in athletic department history, The Master’s College will be a host site for the fifth annual NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.  Faulkner University (Ala.) and Rogers State University (Okla.) will also join TMC as first-time hosts.

Along with Reese Field.jpgthe honors of hosting the tournament, the Mustangs received an automatic postseason berth.

The tournament will be played May 9-13 and will feature nine five-team double elimination tournaments.

The Opening Round site selection process took into account geography, facilities, student-athlete experience, and host qualification.

While this will be TMC’s first time hosting the national tournament, the Mustangs are no strangers to the postseason.  The last time the Mustangs were in the NAIA World Series Opening Round was 2009 in Mt. Berry, Georgia, where they won one game before being eliminated.  In 2000, the Mustangs finished third in the NAIA World Series where they fell to Dallas Baptist 6-4.

“What an incredibly opportunity!” commented 17-year Mustang baseball head coach Monte Brooks.  “The greatest excitement for me is that we will have the opportunity to put the Lord on display to the visiting teams and to the Santa Clarita Valley community.”

The 45 qualifiers and brackets for the National Championship Opening Round will be announced on May 5.

For now, the Mustangs travel to CSU San Marcos and engage in a three-game series against the Cougars, and then host conference opponent Westmont April 26-27.  Should the Mustangs take both series, there is a high chance they will also play host to the GSAC tournament May 2-4.
