Tandoori Grill

Pardeep Kumar, 47, of Newhall, was arrested Tuesday on mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, involuntary servitude and human trafficking charges.

“The case was reviewed for filing consideration but it was declined due to a lack of sufficient evidence,” said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.

“The actual charge evaluation worksheet is not available, yet,” he said, adding that would explain the reason behind why the case was declined.

Kumar was released from custody Thursday.

Sheriff’s Department officials announced the charges at a news conference Wednesday, featuring the alleged victim’s brother, who reported the allegations to Sheriff’s Department officials.

Kumar was arrested at the restaurant Tuesday.

  3. If he is in fact innocent his long time reputation in this tight knit community has been tarnished and his business possibly destroyed. Sad! Smh

  7. Thanks Kay Kristi!! Yep, that’s been around awhile cause it was there when I lived there!

  8. he’s not innocent they just did not have enough to charge him with.
I think his place should be shut down.

  9. Find the cooks paychecks going back 3 years. Bet they can’t. Then explain the injuries. Bet they can’t. Something smells fishy here.

  10. Because of this statement right here. (but it was declined due to a lack of sufficient evidence,” ) I will ask what do you think?

    • Being a president of a company I would hope you’re smart enough to comprehend the correct meaning of “declined due to a lack of SUFFICIENT evidence”

    • Stacey you are correct I do not know %100 but in most cases this means they do not have enough to prosecute. I would like to think other wise. still there is something wrong when they interviewed a past employ and he stated this owner was hitting this guy. So he left. Why are you so convinced he is not? or are you just stating maybe he may not be a bad guy?

    • The fact of the matter is they did not have a sufficient amount of evidence to convict this man of this crime that you’re so convinced he committed. Law enforcement received a call that this incident allegedly occurred. They arrest this man, he is placed under arrest, SCVTV and other media agency’s find out about this case and report on it. The DA goes in and investigates the evidence on the case. Realizes there is no bases to the allegations and release the guy in less than 24 hours. If in fact there was evidence of the alleged crimes he would not have been released! Period! The lack of evidence proves that there is more to this story. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Clearly it’s guilty if accused.

    • Stacey Convery again why are you defending this guy? How much are you getting paid?

  11. Just don’t eat there yuck

  12. Sarah Kendig says:

What does human trafficking mean exactly?

  13. Tanya Parker says:

They only arrested him like yesterday… That seems fast to drop charges….

  14. Actually when we were still having our house built in the early parts of 1998 we were so thrilled since we love Indian food to have stumbled across this restaurant. We thought it was not just “okay cool we can eat Indian food “, we actually thought it was very good and we ate Indian food all of the time in the San Fernando Valley when we used to live there. I have been eating it as a teenager back in the 1980s. So when’s our house was ready to move in, we went there all of the time constantly and most of the time really loved it. Over the years there were some inconsistencies with the food and over the last maybe six years there have been one possibly two now I don’t remember new managements that took over or new ownership I don’t remember which it was now. But once we ended up finding by accident Parashars’ Indian kitchen, we have never been back to Tandoori Grill! Poonam Sharma Parashar, and her husband not only have the most incredible tasting food although no it is not a fine dining restaurant, they treat everybody who walks in whether a first timer or a regular as if you are part of their family. And all of their employees are smiling and often times if they happen to catch your eye they will smile and wave as well at you when you’re at the counter. We have tried the new one called Royal tandoor I think it’s called, and although I like the fine dining feeling, the taste of the food does not compare to Parashar’s! Even when Karma first opened up (and yes I absolutely love that atmosphere in there even more than the atmosphere in Tandoori Grill, ) neither my husband nor I thought The food had much flavor so we continued always go to Tandoori Grill… Until Parashars’ Indian Kitchen came into our lives! Don’t let the casual establishment of the eatery turn you off. Give the flavors of the food and the warm inviting feeling of the owners a chance to win you over.

  15. Karen Hicks says:

Boycott boycott boycott and pray karma gets him.

  16. Ronda Rueck says:

Sounds to me like the chef was being sponsored by the owners and got bitter.

  17. If there are any cooks out there, I know where you can find a job. And they will probably give you a place to live and drive you to and from work every day.

  18. Even though he may not be charged.. I think all of Santa Clarita should boycott cause he’s not innocent.

  19. Michael Pare says:

It’s amazing that can happen here.

  20. I know where I’m eating next

  21. Nicole Robb says:

Doesn’t surprise me at all. I could barely get the sheriff’s to take a report of someone violating a restraining order. He said ” all we do is file these with the DA. And nothing ever happens.” And this is after a death threat and the person following me to the station to make the report. “

  22. i don’t buy the allegations.. i’ve never been to tandoori nor met the owner but indians are true believers of Karma.. and i dont think a business owner would be stupid enough to risk his business for not paying the cook… the employee probably got upset over something petty and felt vengeful.

    • Well, i did work in a Indian restaurant for a week and they never paid me for my hours. . Do I care? No..but i believe they think they can do here what some do back in India.

  23. Shar Zega says:

Crazy we ate there all the time

  24. Stephen Gold says:

That man is in a lot of trouble with his peers I give it a couple weeks and Its all over for him….

  25. I can’t believe the DA dropped the ball in this case

  26. Alan Bingham says:

Funny I keep reading boycott boycott boycott, I’ve never been in the place, doubt I ever would, and I’ll bet I’m pretty much like everyone else here.

  27. So it is okay for you to defame someone’s character and tarnish the restaurant they’ve worked hard to establish before they’ve actually been charged with a crime? I’ve seen pictures of this guy and his restaurant all over your news source bc of one single accusation with no evidencial backing. What happened to being innocent before proven guilty? Shame on you guys

  29. Ary Gomez says:

Well guilty or not, without a cook his future doesn’t look the same way anymore, plus a lot of customers might not want to go there any longer!
