College of the Canyons is inviting students, staff and community members to participate in a “Hope for Nepal” earthquake relief fundraising activity benefiting the American Red Cross.
Attendees will gather to design, prepare and display Tibetin prayer flags — cloths of different colors and sizes that traditionally include messages of hope — across the Valencia campus Honor Grove.
It is hoped that this representation of the popular Nepalese practice will produce a visual message of hope dedicated to victims of the country’s recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
With a goal to raise $3,000 in relief funds event participants are asked to donate $2 or more for each flag message they design.
All proceeds will benefit the efforts of the American Red Cross currently working in Nepal.
Scheduled participants include the college’s International Services & Programs office, the COC Associated Student Government, the COC Sustainability Center, the college’s student TEDx Club, the COC Model United Nations team, and other college departments and student groups.
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20.
Location: COC Valencia campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.
