Santa Clarita City council members approved a motion to move the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce operations back into City Hall and renew a lease agreement at Tuesday’s City council meeting.
The chamber recently approached the city with a request to relocate into the City Hall building on Valencia Boulevard temporarily at no cost for a period not to exceed one year, according to the report. The chamber is looking for a tenant to sublet its existing space on Tourney Road for the remainder of its current lease term.
The proposal calls for the chamber to use space in City Hall from Dec. 1, 2016, to Nov. 30, 2017.
The chamber was previously located on the ground floor of City Hall in Suite 100. A second-floor suite, No. 265, is currently being used for storage, according to the report. City staffers say the chamber could move into the 1,048-square-foot space and “would not impact the overall operations at City Hall.”
The suite used by the chamber fee-free, but the chamber would be responsible for its share of utilities including Internet and telephone service.
Five parking spaces and City Hall access cards would be provided.
The chamber is prohibited from posting, displaying or hosting any events that advocate a political positions in the city-owned space.
