The California Department of Transportation would like to alert commuters to expect traffic delays on southbound Interstate 5 near the Fort Tejon/Lebec area in
Kern County due to an ongoing 1.5 mile pavement rehabilitation project.
Caltrans is currently working to improve the condition of pavement on southbound I-5 in Kern County from the Kern/Los Angeles County Line to 0.1 mile north of the Grapevine Creek Bridge near Lebec.
Construction crews have placed temporary concrete safety railing (K-Rail) to allow the safe closure of the primary Truck Lane and right shoulder for this improvement project. All travelers are advised to adhere to all construction signage and to drive with extra care through this Construction Zone.
I-5 is currently reduced to three lanes in the area of Ft. Tejon/Lebec and commute travel may become congested. I-5 is reduced to two lanes overnight (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.) Monday to Thursday in order to perform additional pavement work.
Commuters will experience delays and are encouraged to take alternate routes whenever possible. Long-term lane closures are necessary 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during this phase of the construction project which is expected to be completed by the end of November.
Caltrans would like to thank the motoring public for their patience during this construction project. Motorists are reminded to watch for construction personnel and equipment.
