The Canyon boys basketball team had a rough week. The Cowboys lost two games, had their 12-game winning streak snapped and fell out of first place in the Foothill League standings.
After losing to Hart and Saugus last week, Canyon dropped to No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA rankings after being No. 1 for three weeks.
They will try to get back on track against Valencia tonight.
The West Ranch boys emerged as the new leader of the Foothill League and have won three games in a row, including 91-80 over Hart on Friday night.
The Wildcats will look to stay in first place after tonight’s game against Golden Valley.
The Hart boys are home for a game against Saugus.
On the girls side, Canyon will look to rebound after losing their first Foothill League game of the season to Saugus, 52-50.
Canyon and Saugus are tied for first place in the league standings. Canyon can build off a 49-39 win over Fairfax in the Oaks Christian Showcase on Saturday. The Canyon girls play Valencia tonight.
Saugus is on the road against Hart, which hasn’t won a league game all season.
The West Ranch girls travel to play Golden Valley.
In college golf, the College of the Canyons men’s team has the lead after the first day in the Bakersfield Invitational at Seven Oaks Country Club. COC is 19 strokes ahead of Allan Hancock College and Citrus College.
COC golfers Luke Kristo and Riley Hayfield are tied for the lead in the tournament, each with 1-under 71s.
