The possible addition of two more parcels to the land being considered for the new Castaic High School has caused the William S. Hart District to revise and recirculate the Notice of Preparation of the draft Environmental Impact Report for the properties.
Previously, a notice of preparation on the parcel referred to as the Romero Canyon parcel was circulated in 2011 as was a second revised notice which added an additional access to the property. In addition, a scoping meeting was held to consider the initial property.
In November 2011, parcels 2 and 3 of Tract 47807 became available for purchase and the “hybrid” site may be less costly and have fewer environmental impacts than the original site.
The district is currently conducting various preliminary environmental and design studies to determine if this site is feasible; if it is favorable for development as the high school, the Board may proceed with preparation of an environmental impact report that covers all or only one site that would prove favorable.

The public’s views on the scope and content of the environmental information is being solicited and a comment period is now open. The comment period will close Tuesday, February 28.
