The Santa Clarita Public Library invites the community to a celebration of international culture and childhood literacy at the Dia De Los Ninos/ Dia De Los Libros event happening at the Newhall Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Throughout the day, various events will emphasize the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
The event begins with bilingual story time, followed by whimsical face painting with Portia of ‘Tickled Paint.’ Additionally, children and families will learn about Hispanic culture while creating decorative and elaborate designs out of paper at the Papel Picado Art Project. The event concludes with a special performance from storyteller, Yvette Brandy, who will share her family memories growing up in the Caribbean. Youth participants will receive a free book, popcorn and balloons.
Event programming for the Dia De Los Ninos/Dia De Los Libros celebration includes:
• Bilingual Story Time: Hosted from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
• Face Painting with Portia of ‘Tickled Paint:’ Hosted from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
• Papel Picado Art Project: Hosted from 12:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Story telling with Yvette Brandy: Hosted from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
